David Soutter - Reliance Auctions
Isn’t it a great feeling when you can look at your business model and confidently feel that you have done all you can do, and your business is thriving? That your footprint is sufficient to keep the successes rolling in? Well, David Soutter of Reliance Auctions can definitely do just that!
David was introduced to the Auction industry when he started working for Aucor in 2005 as a property broker. This is where he fell in love with the industry. Having found mentors in James Dall and Eddie Wintersein, David has been involved in the Industry for 17 years, and in 2011 he started his own company.
“Reliance Auctions was born in 2011 and the inspiration for starting the business was that at the time, very few residential auctions were taking place. We identified a gap in the market and began to focus on both commercial and residential opportunities,” David said. He describes the journey so far as “great” and says that their brand is well-established and recognised globally.
David says that his favourite part of being an Auctioneer is the excitement that is created on the auction day, as well as the competitive bidding. “Challenges came to the fore in the beginning of Covid-19, where the market was kind of in limbo as to what position buyers and sellers would take, but as soon as things settled, it was business as usual,” he said.
With branches in Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town, and specialising in fixed property assets, Reliance Auctions boasts an effective footprint that has proved sufficient to cover South Africa. “Our biggest accomplishment thus far, but not limited to, is the sale of the iconic Royal Hotel in Durban.
