With a background in commerce and over 22 years of experience in auctioneering, Ari Ben, the CEO of AuctionInc has helped to establish the company as a first choice for quick and efficient asset disposal.
Ari’s journey in the auction industry began in the mid-2000s when he joined Aucor and learned the trade. After six years there, he co-founded AuctionInc, where he honed his skills for two years before exploring opportunities in the property sector. In 2016, he returned to AuctionInc, this time as CEO, a position from which he has been steering the company ever since.
"I always had two passions – people and property," says Ari, explaining his inspiration for entering the auction business. "The auction platform gave me the perfect avenue to merge these passions and I love the pace and volume of transactions. Each asset requires negotiation and out-of-the-box thinking making every sale unique and interesting.”
Nowadays, AuctionInc specialises in residential and commercial properties, with a strong presence in Gauteng and Johannesburg. Operating nationally, the company aims to expand its reach to regions lacking exposure in the auction industry, such as Brits, Welkom, and Bloemfontein.
Reflecting on the journey, Ari acknowledges the challenges faced, particularly in shaping the company's culture. "The culture and morale of the business are paramount," he emphasises, highlighting the importance of creating a positive work environment. He has been fortunate to be guided by mentors like Eddie Winterstein, the 'Godfather' of auctioneering in South Africa, and Mike Nkuma, a revered figure in the property sector.
One of AuctionInc's notable achievements was the sale of a Kwa-Zulu Natal shopping centre for R300 million last year, showcasing the company's prowess in the market.
As AuctionInc continues to grow, Ari envisions cementing the company’s name and market share across South Africa. With a team of resolute professionals and a commitment to excellence, AuctionInc under his leadership is set to leave an indelible mark on the auctioneering landscape.
