Disa Smuts - O-YES Auctions

This women’s month we are celebrating the women of SAIA, and who better to kickstart this campaign than auctioneer and SAIA board member Disa Smuts from O-Yes Auctions?

Disa joined the auctioneering industry 10 years ago after qualifying through The South Africa Auctioneering College with Hedley Harris. The reason she got involved in the first place was because she was so impressed with the auction process as a seller when she was trying to sell her business. Selling took a long time, but on auction, it sold after 21 days.

Naming Hedley Harris and Eddy Winterstein as her mentors, Disa says the highlight of her career has been selling a mall for over R110 million.

The challenges that she has faced in this industry is the stigma around auctions in South Africa. “The general knowledge has not been updated in recent years like for international auctions,” Disa said.

O-Yes Auctions grew from O-Yes Property and operates nationwide. They are also among the top-rated companies on Hello Peter and focuses on a wide range of assets – “we sell everything excep animals,” Disa said.

Disa says she joined SAIA because of her passion for the auctioneering industry- a passion so strong, she also started an academy with mentors for new entrants who want to get into the market.
