A chance entrant into auctioneering, his career began in London in 1971 and quickly developed into a passion to become a trusted and professional service within financial circles. This early vision and entrepreneurial spirit laid the groundwork for Powells Valuation and Dispersal Advisory Services and has been the guiding principal for his business ever since.

Under Philip’s guidance focusses on all things auctioneering, with accurate valuations being carried out across diverse asset classes. The company’s strategic dispersal planning has become a hallmark of the company's approach and its recent transition to technological advanced methods has ensured that clients receive cutting-edge solutions backed by a team of seasoned experts.

The Cape Town based company auctioneer, whose single biggest claim to fame was the valuation of the world’s most expensive piece of real estate in the world followed by one of the world’s longest ongoing auctions at 18-hour auction in 1977 shows his staying power and willingness to be different in order to make a difference. At present Philip’s focus has moved to property, arts and antiques, as well as commercial vehicles.
