Alex Jackson Mthembi - Mcanyi Group

At SAIA, we love it when an Auctioneering company takes it one step further. Mcanyi Auctions, a member of Mcanyi Group, doesn’t only run, manage and plan auctions. They also offer Auctioneering Support services and strive to provide Auctioneers with the necessary skills.

Alex Jackson Mthembi, founder of Mcanyi Group, has been involved in the Auctioneering industry for 12 years, having registered his company with CIPC in 2016. Before this, he worked alongside his sister for over nine years, where he gained invaluable experience.

“I registered my company with CIPC in the year 2016. However, we started to operate in 2019, and the journey has been challenging in a good way,” Alex stated. The challenges he has faced have been finding gigs and contracts, convincing clients that they can get the value of their products, as well as having the funds to remain compliant.

What inspired Alex to start his own auction business? The answer is simple, growth. He credits Teleni Shabangu, Dr Tirhani Mabunda and J.P. Snyman as his mentors on this journey.

Alex flourishes on the Administration side of being an Auctioneer and has contracted two other Auctioneers who do the chanting. In fact, he says that Administration is his favourite part of it all.

Specialising in movable assets and skills provision, Mcanyi Auctions operates on a national scale, and focuses a lot on government departmental and municipal auctions. In terms of expanding, they are open to collaborate with established partners.

Alex says that the company’s biggest accomplishment thus far is the “provisioning of accredited training courses, which includes SAQA 80546: Auctioneering Support Services, level 4.”
