Andrew Miller - In2Assets

When someone says they’ve been involved in the Auctioneering industry for 40 years, you can rest assured that you are dealing with one of the best of the best. Even more so when that Auctioneer is a good-standing member with us at SAIA. While we love welcoming new members to SAIA and helping those who have just started get their businesses off the ground, we get a special kick out of dealing with those who have been in the Industry as long as Andrew Miller from In2Assets has been.

Having grown up on a cattle farm, Andrew became fascinated by the Auctioneers on the monthly stock sales from a young age. He took this fascination and joined the local livestock auction company where he learnt how to become an Auctioneer himself.

As a livestock Auctioneer in the ‘80’s, Andrew was mentored by Dallas Kemp, who he states “was a wonderful mentor”. Over the years, as part of the international panel of Auctioneers registered with the thoroughbred racehorse Industry, he has also had the privilege of working alongside some international household names such as Steve Davis from New Zealand, John O’Kelly and Alistair Pim both from Ireland as well as Henry Beeby from the United Kingdom.

Following the demise of Auction Alliance in 2012, Andrew, alongside Hein Hattingh, Rainer Stenzhorn and Rowena Moodley, founded In2Assets in April 2012. While the journey has had its fair share of challenges, they have been fortunate to develop a recognisable brand in the Commercial and Industrial property sectors. In2Assets operates on a National level, but they are always looking for new areas and avenues to expand into.

Andrew says that he’d much rather be on the beach when the market is tough, but that “there is nothing more rewarding and exhilarating than when the market is buoyant”. One of the challenges the company has faced is that property auctions require a team of strong property administrators, because every single property transaction has an attorney looking at the sale and company from all angles (contracts, bond attorneys, conveyancers etc) so ensure you have the best one in order to handle any challenging moment.

With the challenges also come the rewards, and In2Assets has had many great accomplishments over the years, but the most note-worthy is their Commercial and Industrial property auction coming up in April 2022, which will be the largest auction in terms of value that the company and Andrew have ever conducted. There is a collective value of property in excess of R1 billion under the hammer.

While property auctions take up majority of Andrew’s time, he has been freelancing in the stud stock industry and the thoroughbred horserace market for 40 years. Andrew celebrated these 40 yeas this past February. We congratulate him on his contribution and massive achievements in the Auctioneering Industry and look forward to working alongside him and his company for many more years.
